As the story unfolds, he gradually realises that there are other lives besides his own, and that he has to leave his comfort zone to pursue his dreams. Along the way, he also makes friends with another writer called Priya Paul, who is also from a successful literary family. It is because of the teachings of these two that Kumar manages to win a literary prize for his first book, The Robot, and later on, he is able to win the Man Booker Prize for his second novel, Ananda Coelho’s The Alchemist.
